Darwin's Finches Notecard Pack

  • £6.95

Illustrations by John and Elizabeth Gould from The Zoology of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle, Part 3: Birds, c. 1838-41

Naturalist Charles Darwin collected many specimens of flora and fauna while travelling on the H.M.S. Beagle in 1936, including around 26 species of finches from the Galapagos Islands. Studying the diverse beak shapes of these birds assisted Darwin in his development of the theory of natural selection and evolution. A catalogue of Darwin's ornithological specimens was written and illustrated by John Gould with the assistance of his wife Elizabeth.

Held in the collection of Cambridge University Library.
