Sampler Journal
Ann Seaton, map sampler of England and Wales, 1790
Lined softback notebook with a cover image taken from the extensive sampler collection of The Fitzwilliam Museum. The creation of map samplers was a popular exercise in schools during the 1700 and 1800s, allowing students to practice their embroidery while learning geography. Lincolnshire schoolgirl Ann Seaton has used a combination of cross, double back, and satin stitches.
This design is also available on a jigsaw puzzle, tote bag, and lens cloth.
